Background Theory and Research for the Introvert/Extrovert Stimulation Study
The Lemon Juice Test is designed to investigate whether there is a correlation between introversion and the amount of saliva produced in response to lemon juice. You need to do some reading to find out WHAT we mean by intraversion, HOW it may be connected to biological mechanisms such as saliva levls and WHY these things may be connected. Click on the links below (ALL of them!) and read the stuff.
Reflect on the Experiment - Your Thoughts Please!
You have participated in the Lemon Juice Test and soon you will run the experiment on some unsuspecting participants. You need to form a working group of 3 or 4 people. You will work in this group over the next couple of weeks to plan your experiment, you will also conduct the experiment together. You should already have opened an evaluation sheet through googleclassroom. Answer the questions with your reflections on the lemon juice test we did in class. This is the beginnings of the evaluation process and will help with planning your experiment (to make it better than mine!) and providing material for the discussion section of your report.
Analysing the Results - What is a Correlation Anyway?
The results we obtain from our experiment will be numerical data of the N scores (scores on the Intraversion test) and a measurement on the saliva trail. We are going to analyse these numbers to see if a relationship exists between them. You need to watch the youtube clip below to understand the key features of a correlation. Make sure you understand that a correlation does not imply that one thing CAUSES the other, just that there is (or is not) a relationship.
Extension Articles (Extra for Experts)
The articles below are both very interesting connections to the study we are conducting. They both explore the connection between biology (how much dopamine introverts / extroverts seek and how the Reticular Activating Systems on I's and E's differ) and personality dimension of introversion/extroversion.
