In our Sports Psychology unit, Level 2 students have been looking at motivation - what makes people do anything? Intrinsic motivation refers to things that make sus feel good - pride, new accomplishments and a sense of achievement or just fun! Extrinsic motivation refers to rewards or prizes external to the individual - trophies, NCEA credits, money! We participated in a treasure hunt around school. Initially we thought this was just for fun. When the rules changed halfway through the game and rewards were introduced - were we more or less motivated to complete the task? Does everybody feel the same? Motivators vary between individuals and tasks. What motivates you?
